Weekly Sample 7: Legend of Uh

“It sucks having a famous dad,” DJ continued to think out loud. “Everyone expects me to be just like him, but look at me.” He gestured to himself. “Not exactly dragon slaying material.”

“I dunno about that,” Riley smirked again. “You could lull a dragon to sleep with your boring personality, then sneak up and go for the kill!” She jabbing his chest with her finger.”

Weekly Sample 5: Below the Mines

“Something about the way he sits — it’s too still, too calm. It puts me on edge, like he’s watching me too closely. Gives me the feeling that something's about to happen, even if I can’t prove it.”

Weekly Sample 4: Electric Yearning

“It wasn't the standard emergency announcement from my training sessions; this voice was much too sardonic with a pitch so ambiguous I couldn't tell if it was male or female. Everything is fine. After all, no one was screaming, no alarms were blaring and nothing seemed to be on fire—so far, so good.

But why am I the only one awake?”

Weekly Sample 3: A Twist of Fate

“My mentor once told me I wouldn't die. She thought I was way too stubborn to open the door when Death knocked. But when Death came for her, he didn't pound on the door. He silently came inside and erased the pain I couldn't take away from her face. It went the same way with the many souls I helped throughout the years. He just came, whether he was welcome or not.”

Weekly Sample 1: Descendant

“He could only stumble backward down the corridor as the long blade slashed and tore through the air. It had to weigh a ton, but they carried its momentum into each swing like a dancer of death.”

Who Are We?

We are a dedicated news letter, focused on bringing eyes to good writing. Coming from a background in fiction writing, seeing newer authors and reading their works was always a good way to see how my own writing holds up, and get inspiration from all the unique styles. If you want to get traditionally published, understanding what editors are getting sent is necessary if you want to stand out. Read, study, and be inspired!

FAQs

How will this effect my chances of being traditionally published?

1

Positively.

Traditional publishers usually only care about "First Serial Rights" for a full manuscript. Sharing a single opening chapter is considered a promotional excerpt (like a movie trailer), not a "previously published" book.

Will you own the chapter?

2

No.

You retain 100% ownership. You are only granting us a one-time permission to feature your chapter in the newsletter and on our social channels for promotion.

Can I submit more than once?

3

For different works, yes.

If you rewrite a chapter that has been previously submitted, you can only resubmit it if the scene and sequences has changed, not just basic edits.

What if I want to take it down later?

4

Email us.

To take your work down, all you need to do is email us through our contact page. We cannot unsend a newsletter, but we can take down any other appearances.
